Joining the #MeToo campaign is writer-director Vinta Nanda,who accused 'sanskaari' actor,Alok Nath of raping her nearly two decades ago.
Vinta Nanda of ‘Tara’fame alleged that Alok Nath sexually violated her almost two decades ago.
'I have waitedfor this moment to come for 19 years,' Nanda wrote in a long,heart-wrenching Facebook post, referring to the 'predator inquestion' as 'the actor par excellence who is known as the most'sanskaari' (cultured) person in the film and television industry'.
The adjectives like'sanskaari', 'lead actor' and a 'television star ofthat decade' indicates that the person in question is none other than AlokNath.
Later, confirmingthe same, Nanda said: 'It is Alok Nath. I thought saying 'sanskaari' woulddo the needful.'
Over the decades, audienceadorned Alok Nath as fatherly figure on-screen.
The #MeToo wave acrossthe nation gave Nanda the courage to pen her panic.
'He was analcoholic, shameless and obnoxious but he was also the television star of thatdecade, so not only was he forgiven for all his bad behaviour, many of the guyswould also egg him on to be his worst,' Nanda wrote, adding that he evenharassed the show's lead actress who was not interested in him.
Sharing the worstincident of her life, Vinta Nanda recalled that she left Alok's house party at 2 a.m.She says her drinks were mixed.
'I started towalk home on the empty streets... Midway I was accosted by this man who wasdriving his own car and he asked me to sit in it and said he would drop mehome. I trusted him and sat in his car.
'I have faintmemory after that. I can remember more liquor being poured into my mouth and Iremember being violated endlessly. When I woke up the next afternoon, I was inpain. I hadn't just been raped, I was taken to my own house and had beenbrutalised.
'I couldn'tget up for my bed. I told some of my friends but everybody advised me to forgetabout it and move on.'
Later, forgettingall, Nanda moved on in life and got a job to write and direct a series for Plus Channel,and again her paths crossed with Alok.
'The man foundhis way through the casting route and became one of the lead actors on theshow. He created an environment in which I was made to feel threatened, so Iasked the producers to release me from directing the series because I didn'twant to be around where he was. 'I continued to write the show.'
The 'mostdifficult part' and the 'main reason' why Nanda took so long tocome out with the truth was because while she was working on this new series,she says, 'he asked me to come to his house again and I went to allow himto violate me'.
'I needed thejob and didn't want to leave it as I needed the money. It was after this that Iquit.'
Nanda has urgedpeople 'who have suffered at the hands of predators, to come out and sayit aloud'. 'Don't hold yourselves back. This is a moment for change,so your silence will only hold barriers to its evolution. Speak out. Shout outfrom the top of the roof.'

He went to Modern School, Barakhamba Road, Delhi for his secondary education and then admitted himself in the Hindu College, Delhi. He also earned a Graduate degree in Theatre from National School of Drama. Alok Nath’s father and grandfather were both doctors, so he was also expected to become one. But he had his own passion to follow. Since childhood, he was an active participant in school and college skits. He made his debut in Television through the show “Rishtey-Naate” in 1980. After 2 years, in 1982, he made his big screen debut with the movie, “Gandhi.”
Till 1986 he only played small and insignificant roles in Films. Lack of work and money led him to act in “Buniyad” (1986), in which he played a character of an old man despite he was in his 20s.
